What does ROSIGLITAZONE-METFORMIN do?
ROSIGLITAZONE-METFORMIN (Avandamet(R)) is used along with a diet and exercise program to control high blood sugar in diabetic patients. Controlling high blood sugar helps prevent heart disease, strokes, kidney disease, blindness, circulation problems, and sexual function problems (impotence).
What should my health care professional know before I use rosiglitazone-metformin?
They need to know if you have any of these conditions:
• blood problems such as anemia, or vitamin B-12 deficiency
• swelling
• problems relating to ovulation
• high cholesterol
• scheduled upcoming surgery
• alcohol use
• allergies
• pregnant or trying to get pregnant
• breast-feeding
How should I use this medicine?
Take rosiglitazone-metformin by mouth. This medicine is best taken with meals. Follow the directions on the prescription label. To help you remember, take your dose at the same time(s) each day. Do not take your medicine more often than directed.
What if I miss a dose?
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once
What other medicines can interact with rosiglitazone-metformin?
Tell your prescriber or health care professional about all other medicines that you are taking, including non-prescription medicines. Also tell your prescriber or health care professional if you are a frequent user of drinks with caffeine or alcohol, if you smoke, or if you use illegal drugs. These may affect the way your medicine works. Check with your health care professional before stopping or starting any of your medicines.
What side effects may I notice from using rosiglitazone-metformin?
Side effects that you should report to your prescriber or health care professional as soon as possible:
• swelling of the hands or feet
• unusual tiredness or weakness
• sudden weight gain
• shortness of breath
• stomach pain, vomiting
• yellowing of eyes or skin
• dark urine
Rare or uncommon-signs of allergic reactions:
• skin rash and itching (hives)
• swelling
• difficulty breathing
• dizziness
Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (report to your prescriber or health care professional if they continue or are bothersome):
• include nausea, stomach upset or metallic taste
• diarrhea
• headache
• back pain or joint pain
• weight gain
• cough
• fever
