What do granisetron tablets do?
GRANISETRON (Kytril(R)) helps to relieve nausea and vomiting, especially when associated with the treatment of cancer (chemotherapy).
What should my health care professional know before I take granisetron?
They need to know if you have any of these conditions:
• liver disease
• an unusual or allergic reaction to granisetron, ondansetron, other medicines, foods, dyes, or preservatives
• pregnant or trying to get pregnant
• breast-feeding
How should I take this medicine?
Take granisetron tablets by mouth. Swallow the tablets with a drink of water. Granisetron is given within 60 minutes before chemotherapy. In some cases, a second dose is given about 12 hours after the first dose.
Contact your pediatrician or health care professional regarding the use of this medicine in children. Special care may be needed.
What if I miss a dose?
This does not apply. Granisetron is only given on the day(s) chemotherapy is given.
What other medicines can interact with granisetron?
• ketoconazole
Tell your prescriber or health care professional about all other medicines you are taking, including non-prescription medicines. Also tell your prescriber or health care professional if you are a frequent user of drinks with caffeine or alcohol, if you smoke, or if you use illegal drugs. These may affect the way your medicine works. Check with your health care professional before stopping or starting any of your medicines.
What side effects may I notice from taking granisetron?
Side effects that you should report to your prescriber or health care professional as soon as possible:
Rare or uncommon:
• difficulty breathing, wheezing, shortness of breath
• fast or irregular heartbeat
• tightness in the chest
• swelling of the face, tongue, throat, hands and feet
Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (report to your prescriber or health care professional if they continue or are bothersome):
• constipation or diarrhea
• difficulty sleeping
• dizziness
• drowsiness
• fainting or lightheadedness
• fever
• headache
• nervousness
• skin rash, itching
• stomach pain
• tiredness
