What does duloxetine tablets do?
DULOXETINE (Cymbalta(R)) is used to treat depression. It may also be used to treat certain types of nerve pain and other conditions as determined by your doctor.
What should my health care professional know before I take duloxetine ?
They need to know if you have any of these conditions:
• any mental or mood disorders (such as bipolar disorder)
• mania
• history of seizures
• controlled narrow-angle glaucoma
• severe kidney or liver problems
• history of alcohol abuse
• allergies
• pregnant or trying to get pregnant
• breast-feeding
How should I take this medicine?
Duloxetine tablets are taken by mouth. Follow the directions on the prescription label. Swallow the capsules whole with a drink of water. Do not break, crush, or chew before swallowing. This medicine may be taken on an empty stomach or with food.
What if I miss a dose?
If you miss a dose, take it a soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, consult your prescriber or health care professional. You may need to miss a dose or take a double dose, depending on your condition and treatment. Do not take double or extra doses without advice.
What other medicines can interact with duloxetine?
Tell your prescriber or other health care professional about all other medicines you are taking including non-prescription medicines, nutritional supplements, or herbal products. Also tell your prescriber or health care professional if you are a frequent user of drinks with caffeine or alcohol, if you smoke or if you use illegal drugs. These may affect the way your medicine works. Check before stopping or starting any of your medications.
What side effects might I notice from taking duloxetine?
Side effects that you should report to your doctor as soon as possible:
• stomach pain
• pale stools or dark urine
• difficulty urinating
• yellowing of the eyes or skin
• flu-like symptoms (such as headache, weakness, muscle aches, or fever)
• chest pain
• changes in sexual ability/interest
• increased sweating
• unusual fatigue
• mental or mood changes
Rare or uncommon:
• rash, itching
• swelling
• severe dizziness
• difficulty breathing
Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (report to your doctor if they continue or are bothersome):
• nausea
• vomiting
• constipation
• loss of appetite
• dizziness
• difficulty sleeping or drowsiness
• back pain
• dry mouth
