What does rosuvastatin do?
ROSUVASTATIN (Crestor(R)) is used to help lower cholesterol and fat (triglyceride) levels and to raise good cholesterol (HDL) levels in your blood. Generic Rosuvastatin is available.
What should my health care professional know before I use rosuvastatin?
They need to know if you have any of these conditions:
• muscle problems
• heart problems
• kidney problems
• low thyroid problems
• low blood pressure
• alcohol use
• severe infection or infection in the blood
• serious metabolic, endocrine, or electrolyte problems
• recent surgery or injury
• allergies
• uncontrolled seizures
• dehydration
• liver disease or abnormal liver function
• pregnant or trying to get pregnant
• breast-feeding
How should I use this medicine?
Take rosuvastatin by mouth. This medicine is best taken on an empty stomach or with food. Do not take antacids for at least 2 hours after taking this medicine. Follow the directions on the prescription label. To help you remember, take your dose at the same time(s) each day. Do not take your medicine more often than directed.
What if I miss a dose?
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once
What other medicines can interact with rosuvastatin?
Tell your prescriber or health care professional about all other medicines that you are taking, including non-prescription medicines. Also tell your prescriber or health care professional if you are a frequent user of drinks with caffeine or alcohol, if you smoke, or if you use illegal drugs. These may affect the way your medicine works. Check with your health care professional before stopping or starting any of your medicines.
What side effects may I notice from using rosuvastatin?
Side effects that you should report to your prescriber or health care professional as soon as possible:
• nausea or vomiting
• stomach pain or cramping
• chest pain
• fever
• muscle pain
• tenderness, or weakness (especially with fever or unusual tiredness)
• yellowing of eyes or skin
• dark urine
Rare or uncommon-signs of allergic reactions:
• skin rash and itching (hives)
• swelling
• difficulty breathing
• dizziness
Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (report to your prescriber or health care professional if they continue or are bothersome):
• constipation
• stomach upset
• headache
• weakness
