What do cabergoline tablets do?
Cabergoline (Dostinex(R)) is used to treat high levels of prolactin, a hormone made by the body that affects such things as the menstrual cycle, breast milk production, fertility, and sexual function. Cabergoline also treats high levels of prolactin which occur with certain tumors such as adenomas. This medication is sometimes used for the treatment of Parkinson's disease or restless-legs syndrome.

What should my health care professional know before I take cabergoline?
They need to know if you have any of these conditions:
• anxiety
• depression
• heart disease
• high or low blood pressure
• liver disease
• lung disease
• memory disorder
• schizophrenia
• an unusual or allergic reaction to cabergoline, other medicines, foods, dyes, or preservatives
• pregnant or trying to get pregnant
• breast-feeding

How should I take this medicine?
Take cabergoline tablets by mouth. Depending on your illness, you may take as little as one pill twice per week to as much as one pill daily. This medicine may be taken with or without food. Follow the directions on the prescription label. Do not take your medicine more often than directed.

Contact your pediatrician or health care professional regarding the use of this medicine in children. Special care may be needed.

What if I miss a dose?
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, take only that dose. Do not take double or extra doses.

What side effects may I notice from taking cabergoline?
Side effects that you should report to your prescriber as soon as possible:
• confusion
• nausea/vomiting
• shortness of breath, wheezing
• skin rash, skin lumps, or hives
• tingling or numbness in hands or feet
• weakness
Stop using cabergoline and call your prescriber as soon as you can if you get any of these side effects.

Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (report to your prescriber or health care professional if they continue or are bothersome):
• constipation
• diarrhea
• dizziness
• drowsiness
• dry mouth
• headache
• indigestion
• low blood pressure
• nervousness
• pain in stomach or abdomen
• pain with menstruation
• swelling in ankles
• tiredness
